Huaynapicchu & Machupicchu Mountains

Hiking up either of these mountains is a popular excursion to undertake after you have visited the grounds of Machupicchu with your guide. There are limited spaces available and permits need to be booked in advance to secure your spot.

Below is helpful information and the rules and regulations you need to know in order to make your reservation with us.

Entrance Permits and Departure Times

Huaynapicchu Mountain
Currently the more popular hike primarily because this is the first hike within the grounds that opened to the public so its the more known one. This hike is around 1hr steep ascent – there are sheer drops on the side– if you are afraid of heights, this is not for you! Coming down will also be around 1hr approx.

The following are the entrance times:
* 7am-8am slot (you may need to forfeit part of your guided tour of Machupicchu with this option depending on whether or not there are other persons in the group not doing the hike as the Guide needs to give his guided tour on entry of the ruins)
* 10-11am slot (this is our preferred time slot for our passengers as it means you can have your tour of Machupicchu first followed by the hike)

Machupicchu Mountain

Less known than Huaynapicchu but certainly not to be ignored. This hike is slightly longer taking around 1.5hrs up and same down.  From the top you will have a birds-eye-view of Machupicchu. Many of our guides prefer this hike as its less crowded.

The following are the entrance times:
* 7am-8am slot (you may need to forfeit part of your guided tour of Machupicchu with this option depending on whether or not there are other persons in the group not doing the hike as the Guide needs to give his guided tour on entry of the ruins)
* 9-10am (this is our preferred time slot for our passengers as it means you can have your tour of Machupicchu first followed by the hike)

The sun rises in the area around 6am but has to climb over the surrounding mountains in front of the ruins before you actually experience the sun rays. Please do not be disappointed if you cannot get the earliest entrance time as Machupicchu is often shrouded in cloud especially in the rainy season (November-March).  This usually lifts a little later in the morning.  It really is the luck of the draw if you get sunny Machupicchu or mystical Machupicchu – they are both equally as beautiful

The entrance time of your permit is dependent on which excursion you are undertaking.
Machupicchu morning entrance times are as follows: 6-7am, 7-8am, 8-9am

See the below table which will assist you in establishing which entrance time you need. Of course, we are here to help you, so any questions you have, please do not hesitate to ask us!

COSTS
When undertaking any Inca Trail : US$ 85 per person
When undertaking Salkantay or Lares or train package : US$ 30 per person

Please note your permits are with your name and passport details and are non- transferable and non-refundable. If you supply incorrect details you will not be allowed entry, so please ensure you provide us with the correct information.
