Walking City Tour of La Paz

Our half day walking tour is the perfect opportunity for travelers to experience the lively nature of La Paz by foo taking in the sights, sounds and people that bustle through its important Bolivian city. The tour includes some of the most famed sights in the area, including the ‘Witches’ Market’, San Francisco Church, and the historic Plaza Murillo.

The city of La Paz is full of curiosities that can be found around the corner and our guide will take you to reveal their secrets and discover a “La Paz” of charm.


On this 2.5 hour tour on foot, we wander the colonial and republic streets of the Western and Eastern sides of La Paz accompanied by a local, bilingual (Spanish – English) tour guide, happily answering any question you may have. The majority of our guides have grown up in the city, making their knowledge of its history and customs second to none.

As we stroll through the produce markets, take in the colors and smells of the indigenous stalls, accompanied by the warm people of the country feel free to try anything that may seem unfamiliar to you as Bolivia is home to a vast array of fruits, vegetables and nuts. We then walk through the famed, interesting and culturally important Witches Market.

Snap pictures of the many llama fetuses hanging in the stalls along with the many totems, herbs and spices that are held in such high regard in the Andes. Pay close attention to your guide as he explains the indigenous practices that involve the plethora of items in the market place.

Arriving to the purple cable car stations we journey until the highest point where we will continue to the gray cable car line enjoying panoramic views of the city. The red cable car takes us over a very old cemetery until we reach the last station. Lastly, we continue onwards on the orange line which terminates close to the main square of the city.

We continue on foot down one of the most traditional colonial streets, Jaen. At La Paz's central Plaza Murillo, your guide will point out the Presidential Palace, the National Congress and other important government buildings, all with impressive colonial edifices in the oldest quarter of the city. Finally, we continue down the street to the San Francisco Church; considered one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in La Paz. Our tour ends here.
